Questionnaire | Book Blogger Love-a-thon 2015

BANNER - 2015 LOVEATHON

Book Blogger Love-a-Thon is hosted by Alexa of Alexa Loves Books. It is a week long event to foster positivity, creativity, and love in the book community!

QUESTIONNAIRE

1. What’s your name?

Samantha

2. Where in the world are you blogging from?

The east coast of the USA

3. How did you get into blogging in the first place?

I originally entered the book community as a book vlogger, with my Booktube channel, Thoughts on Tomes. I love my channel and the community on Youtube, but I also wanted somewhere that I could post a review for every single book I read, which I didn’t have the time to do on my channel. I also wanted to get involved with the wonderful book blogging community. So I started this blog!
4. What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?

My favorite genres are fantasy and scifi, mostly YA. But I read and review a little bit of everything!

5. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2015!

  • 1. The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson
  • 2. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • 3. Frozen Tides by Morgan Rhodes
  • 4. The Winner’s Crime by Marie Rutkowski
  • 5. The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey

I told you I love YA fantasy 🙂

6. What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?

I do not nearly see enough praise for the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore. It is a wonderful fantasy series that takes place over many years through 3 companion novels. The protagonists are different in each book, but there is overlap as far as other characters. The strong female characters in this series are amazing, and the villain is one of my most hated of all time. Also, it is one of the few series I’ve seen in YA that has many characters on the LGBTQ spectrum as well as displays a variety of sexualities and how sexuality is expressed. It is nothing short of amazing!

7. Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?

I’m an avid gamer, with my favorite franchises currently being Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed, Final Fantasy, and Elder Scrolls. I also love board gaming. I’ve tried to pick up knitting as well, but so far had little success.

8. Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?

I collect nail polish and lipstick, both in either obnoxiously bright or bold dark colors.

9. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.

I could not pick just one! I would love to see a film for The Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. I’d also love a film of The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, because I need to see that world on the big screen. As far as a film being turned into books, I’d LOVE Pirates of the Caribbean books following different characters in that world. I just want more pirate books!

I’m very excited to be participating in my first Love-a-thon! Thank you all for visiting 🙂

I loved The Winner’s Crime! I wasn’t a huge fan of The Winner’s Curse, but this sequel definitely made this series a must-read for me. I hope you love it when you get the chance to read it! You’ve also reminded me that I need to finish reading the Graceling series (which also means I will probably reread the first two, so yay!). Also, Pirates of the Carribean as a book (or series)? BE STILL MY HEART.

Thanks for participating in this year’s Love-a-Thon! 🙂

I’ve had a few friends that have already read The Winner’s Crime and told me to prepare my heart for breakage!
I just finished the Graceling trilogy last year and really loved the conclusion with Bitterblue. Very solid ending and tied up all the loose ends.

      Thank you for hosting 🙂

    Hi Samantha! 😀

Is is weird that I love to WATCH people play games, but not actually play it? Especially Final Fantasy! 😀

Fantasy is becoming one of my new favorite genres – so yay!

I did the BookTube thing for awhile, but it wasn’t for me. I always admire people who have the time to blog, make videos, and read.

I’m also a big Fantasy fan and I’m really excited for Six of Crows. I need to read the Graceling series. I’ve heard good things about it and fellow bloggers who know my reading style have said I will like it.

It’s good to meet you! New follower.

Thank you 🙂 It can be a lot to juggle at times but I really love it.

I THOUGHT I was excited for Six of Crows, but then that cover reveal happened and now I need it in my hands immediately!

I recommend Graceling to everyone I know. There is something in that series for everyone.

Thank you! Lovely to meet you as well 🙂

Graceling is SO good. I have only read the first book since I want to always have more, but I will read the next book soon. The Night Circus could make a great movie

I finally finished the Graceling trilogy last year and it was a really solid conclusion. All the loose ends were tied up and it was a really satisfying ending.
Yes! It’s a book that is made to be a movie. It would be so stunning!

It’s such an under-rated fantasy series! All the female protagonists are so strong, but all in their own way. And the side characters are just as loveable. It’s one of the few series I have actually re-read.

Yes to pirate books! I want more of them. Have you read The Assassin’s Curse by Cassandra Rose Clarke? That’s a pirate book. I haven’t read it yet, but I’ve heard good things.

The Heart of Betrayal! The Winner’s Crime! The Girl at Midnight! All books I am DYING to read!

And I definitely need to read the Graceling series. I have the first one just haven’t gotten around to it, but I love YA fantasy so I’ll have to pick it up soon!

I have read that duology and I LOVED it! It combines my two favorite things : Assassins and Pirates. And the world is very original as well. More of an Arabian fantasy setting instead of the typical Medieval feeling fantasy setting.
Can’t it be summer yet so I can have all of those books in my hands?!
I love the Graceling series so much. It is one of the few series I have actually re-read because my love for it is so strong 🙂

I love me some video games too! I’m currently playing the first Mass Effect game. But, I also love the Elder Scrolls series and the Final Fantasy Series (especially VIII and X). Oooh, and I’m a sucker for the Borderlands games 🙂

I’ve only heard positive things about the Graceling series, but it’s one I haven’t picked up yet. I’ve failed to finish so many series, that the thought of starting new series overwhelms me…

Yay! I hope you are LOVING the Mass Effect series. I’m not the biggest fan of the first one, but the second game is everything 🙂 I love playing the Borderlands games as couch co-ops. The only first person shooters I enjoy!

I hear you! This is my year of finishing out series, so I only have a few that I’m currently in the middle of and I am trying to marathon series as much as possible so that I don’t have so many in progress at once. That was me about 6 months ago and it stressed me out 🙂

Hi Samantha! 😀 I love YA fantasy toooo.

OMG I REALLY NEED TO READ GRACELING. It was all the rage back when it first came out, I think – I remember seeing my friends talk about it on Twitter a lot, but it’s been quite a few years since then. But yeah, I definitely need to read it, because it sounds like something I would really love.

Oooh I love board games! Well I haven’t played that many but there’s a board game café in town that opened about a year or two ago and I love going there. Sadly I don’t have nearly as much free time to go there as I would like. ):

I’m really excited for Six of Crows and The Girl at Midnight as well! 😀

I think “The Night Circus” would make a good movie! Have you watched “The Prestige”? I was reminded of it when I read “The Night Circus”.
