Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s topic is 10 books we have recently added to our to be read list. The overwhelming majority of these are actually books that have yet to be released!
10. The last summer of us by Maggie harcourt
Set to be released in May of 2015, this is a contemporary YA read about three friends who are going on a summer roadtrip. This book takes place in Wales, which is a location that I have not heard much about, and ARC readers are saying that the way the friendships are portrayed is wonderful and realistic. The synopsis also mentions a slow-burning romance, which is my favorite kind. This sounds like the perfect summer read for me.
9. vengeance road by erin bowman
Set to be released in September of 2015, this is a YA Western. I loved the last YA western I read (Blood Red Road by Moira Young) and I don’t see many books fall in this genre. Our protagonist’s father was killed by a group called the Rose Riders over a journal holding the location of a mysterious gold mine, and of course, she seeks VENGEANCE. I’m here for it. And can we talk about that cover?!
8. The forbidden wish by jessica khoury
Another yet to be released title, this one is set for sometime in 2016. But it is going to be an Aladdin retelling. Disney’s Aladdin was one of my favorite movies as a child, and continues to be as an adult, so I will not be passing this one up.
7. The sculptor by scott mccloud
This is a MASSIVE graphic novel about a sculptor who makes a deal with Death that he can sculpt anything he can imagine with his bare hands, but he will die in 200 days. He also happens to finally find love just when his time is running out. I have heard that this is a beautiful story, and the artwork is wonderful.
6. 99 days by katie cutugno
Although I wasn’t a massive fan of her other book, How to Love, based on the subject matter, I still found her writing style very fast-paced and I’m interested to see what I would think of one of her other books. This one is set to be released April 2015, and is about a girl who has come back to her hometown for the summer. But the last time she was home, she was the center of a bit of a scandal between two brothers. And things haven’t exactly calmed down yet. It sounds like it’s going to be full of angst and that’s something we all need once in a while. Plus I enjoy the cover…
5. rook by sharon cameron
Another to be released book, set for release April 2015, about a sort of Robin Hood character who is releasing rebels from prison it what used to be Paris. No one knows who the Red Rook is, but the hunt for him ends on our main character’s doorstep, who is in an arranged marriage with a wealthy man in order to save her family. Who is the Rook, who are the characters… the synopsis is all shrouded in mystery. But it sounds right up my alley.
4. forbidden by tabitha suzuma
This is a controversial YA novel about two siblings who have an alcoholic mother and are forced to raise their three younger siblings. Over time, they end up falling in love. This has been either a love it or hate it novel from what I’ve seen of the reviews, so I want to see where I sit with it.
3. retribution falls by chris wooding
This book has been recommended to me so many times based on my never-ending love of pirates and steampunk. This is an adult fantasy story set in a steampunk universe about a band of sky pirates. That’s all I know and that is all I need to know.
2. the mirror empire by kameron hurley
Another adult fantasy novel that has won a ton of awards for the genre, this is set in a world that is mostly run by females (sign me up!). It is said to be very complex, and have a plethora of interesting characters who are all interwoven with a ton of political intrigue.
1. The Raven boys by maggie stiefvater
I think it has been far too long that I have gone without reading anything by Maggie. With the final installment sent to be released this year, now is the perfect time to marathon the series. My good friend, Sabrina from Steakuccino, talks about this series on a regular basis and I just cannot put it off any longer.
